This summer we are kind of on a “tour de famille”, if you will. First stop was Amsterdam to visit my sister, second stop is Michigan to visit my mom and third will be Toronto to visiting M’s family. Can you tell I’m taking advantage of a summer off work?
Currently O and I are hanging out in Saint Joseph, Michigan, a small town which hugs Lake Michigan’s east coast and is known for its beautiful beach sunsets. It is a two hour drive from Chicago, and a favourite vacation spot for those seeking time away from the city. My mom and her husband own and operate the the Dove Nest Bed and Breakfast. In addition to treating their guests to a three-course breakfast, they also offer wine tours of the local vineyards for those staying with them.
While Saint Joe is definitely a small town, there is plenty to do. Here’s our list:
Be a beach bum at Silver Beach with its soft golden sands.
Enjoy the splash pad with water-cannons….
…and the carousel
Take a walk in downtown St. Joe and see the annual sculptures (can you guess this year’s theme?)
Visit Fernwood Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve to see their train exhibit or “Pick-your-own” whatever’s in season at a nearby farm.
We also went to the nearby Van Buren youth fair where we saw animals and went on rides (the bumper cars were a hit!). Tomorrow….off to Canada!
